How to take care of your TPE doll? (2024 update)

tpe sex doll ultimate care cleaning guide tenderdolls

The following instructions are only applicable to dolls made from TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) material, not silicone. If your doll has a TPE body with a silicone head, these tips only apply to the maintenance of her TPE body. For guidance on silicone dolls, click here.

What You Will Need:

  • Mild soap and water (unscented)
  • Microfiber cloths and soft brushes
  • Baby oil (see material notes below)
  • Baby powder (or corn starch/corn flour / talc as preferred)
  • Nivea Body Lotion (or similar non-aggressive lotion)
  • Vaseline (100% Pure Petroleum Jelly) — use cautiously, see notes
  • Acne cream with Benzoyl Peroxide (for dye stain removal)
  • Water-based lubricant
  • Talcum powder (non-scented) or cosmetic-grade cornstarch
  • A small fan for drying (optional)
  • Additional recommended items: vaginal irrigator or gentle syringe, clean tampons or foam drying plugs, TPE repair kit (glue/paste), soft toothbrush, high-quality condom supply, gentle toy cleaner.
Things you'll need

The First Day is Crucial

When your TPE doll arrives, proper cleaning is essential to remove production residues that can discolor her skin over time.

  1. Initial Cleaning:
    • Use a mild soap and water mixture with a soft microfiber cloth to gently clean her body.
    • Important: Be gentle and avoid scrubbing too hard. Repeat this process 5–6 times to ensure all production residue is removed.
    • You don’t need to carry her to the bathroom—lay her on a thick blanket (or a few thinner ones) on the floor to absorb excess water.
  2. Oil Application:
    • After cleaning, apply baby oil evenly over her body and let it absorb overnight. Use sparingly — see material notes.
  3. Powdering:
    • If her skin feels sticky the next day, lightly powder her body with baby powder or corn starch.

Note: If your doll has hyper-realistic painting, do not wash her body with soap and water, as it may damage the painting.

TPE Skin Care

  1. Weekly Care:
    • Apply Nivea Body Lotion to delicate areas such as elbows, knees, armpits, and the pubic area. Let it absorb for about 6 hours.
  2. Monthly Rejuvenation:
    • Treat her skin with baby oil monthly to restore elasticity and replenish natural oils.
    • If using Vaseline, let it absorb overnight for best results. Use petroleum products sparingly and avoid on painted or makeup areas.
  3. Managing Stickiness:
    • Over time, her skin may feel sticky. Use a large makeup brush to gently dust her with baby powder or corn starch.

Orifice Cleaning & Drying (Vaginal / Anal / Oral)

Why: Internal cavities retain moisture and organic residue; if they are not cleaned and dried thoroughly they can grow bacteria or mould. Proper internal hygiene is essential for safety and longevity of the TPE material.

  1. Immediate rinse after use:
    • Flush internal cavities with warm water and mild, unscented soap using a vaginal irrigator or a gentle syringe. Run water through until it appears clean.
  2. Optional disinfecting:
    • For extra hygiene (especially after anal use or sharing), a light rinse with a low-concentration antiseptic such as 3% hydrogen peroxide can be used briefly and then flushed with water. Avoid alcohol-based disinfectants inside cavities as they can degrade TPE and damage internal textures. (See hygiene guidance.) :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
  3. Thorough drying:
    • Dry completely before storage. Use clean tampons, foam drying plugs, or leave the cavity exposed to a small fan until fully dry. Incomplete drying is the most common cause of mould or odour. Community and vendor sources recommend tampons or small drying plugs as an effective, low-cost method. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
  4. Condom use:
    • Using condoms for penetrative activity reduces cleanup and lowers infection risk—especially if you switch body areas or partners. Replace condoms between uses. This is recommended by sexual health guidance for porous toys. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

Stain Removal

Stains can appear due to dyes, materials, or production residue. Follow these steps to prevent and treat stains:

  1. Preventing Stains:
    • Wash all new clothing before dressing your doll, especially black or dark-colored fabrics. Avoid dyes known to bleed.
  2. Treating Stains:
    • If staining occurs, remove the cause immediately. For faster results:
      • Use acne cream containing Benzoyl Peroxide. Apply to the stain for about 60 minutes, then rinse and repeat if needed.
      • For stubborn dye transfer, repeat treatments may be required; test a small hidden area first.

Lubrication for Safe Use

Always use water-based lubricant during intercourse to protect the TPE material and prevent tearing. Oil- and silicone-based lubricants can degrade some materials or cause extra cleaning difficulty; always confirm compatibility before use. Using condoms reduces direct contact with bodily fluids and simplifies hygiene.

Storage & Positioning

How you store your doll affects long-term appearance and joint health:

  • Neutral posture: Store in a relaxed, neutral position (lying flat or lightly supported) to avoid prolonged pressure on joints or skin folds that can create permanent creases.
  • Avoid tight clothing or straps: Do not store the doll in tight positions or with clothing that will press edges for long periods; pressure points can cause indentations.
  • Climate control: Keep away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. A stable, cool, dark place is best.
  • Use protective layers: Place cloth or acid-free tissue between areas of contact (e.g., arms against torso) to avoid coloured transfer or creases.

Vendor and community guidance recommend neutral posture and thorough drying before long-term storage to prevent creasing and mould. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}

Inspection & Repair

Regular inspection catches small issues before they become larger problems.

  • Monthly checks: Inspect skin for scratches, small cuts, or colour changes. Check joints for stiffness or loose screws.
  • Minor repairs: Small cuts or tears can be repaired with a TPE repair kit (paste or solvent glue). Practice on sample material first and follow kit instructions carefully. For detailed repair methodology, vendor toolkits and repair handbooks are strongly recommended. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}
  • When to seek professional help: Large tears, structural damage to the internal skeleton, or severe leaking of internal foam or materials should be repaired by a professional or an experienced doll technician.

Materials & Safety Notes

  • Porous vs non-porous: TPE is porous and therefore harder to fully disinfect than non-porous materials (silicone, glass, steel). Extra care is required for hygiene. :contentReference[oaicite:5]{index=5}
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: No acetone, bleach at full strength, or alcohol inside cavities — these can degrade TPE. Use mild soap, toy cleaners designed for intimate products, or diluted antiseptics when needed.
  • Oils and petroleum products: Some owners use baby oil or petroleum jelly sparingly for softening and sheen; however, test a hidden area first and avoid on painted sections — repeated heavy use of certain oils can affect finishes. When in doubt, use manufacturer-recommended products.

Final Tips

  • Eyelashes: Protect delicate eyelashes. Reattach using appropriate adhesives if they come off; avoid superglue on skin areas (use cosmetic-grade lash adhesive).
  • Hands and Fingers: Avoid excessive force to prevent damage. Move joints gently and avoid forcing positions.
  • Alcohol-Free Products: Use alcohol-free alternatives for perfumes and cleaning where possible.
  • Condoms: If you share the doll or switch from anal to vaginal use, use fresh condoms to reduce infection risk and simplify cleaning. :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6}
  • Aftercare checklist: Rinse internal cavities, dry fully (tampon/drying plug/fan), dust with cornstarch or talc if sticky, store flat in neutral pose, inspect monthly.

  1. Roger Smythe says:

    It is my understanding that WM has a new Platinum TPE formulation that does not require the typical ‘Roman Bath’ monthly cleaning. Is this correct? If so, how can I tell if a particular doll that you have listed from WM is made from Platinum TPE?

    1. tenderdolls says:

      Dear Roger,

      Thank you dearly for your question!

      I had to confirm with WM workers to answer this questions 100% accurately.
      According to WM, platinum TPE was an option many years ago. However, currently, absolutely all of the WM dolls listed on our site are made out of platinum TPE.

      If you have any questions or concerns, whatsoever, please let me know! It’s a pleasure for me to be able to help!

      Kindest wishes,

    Other tpe sex doll forums say not to use Nivea body cream or lotion, because it’s mostly water, and tpe is porous and the water can get into it and cause mold on the skin. I am a new owner, and want what’s best for my doll. Can you please give me more information about this. Thank you.

    1. tenderdolls says:

      Thank you for your question! You’re correct that it’s best to avoid lotions with high water content, like Nivea, as TPE is porous, and moisture can potentially lead to mold. Instead, we recommend using mineral oil (like unscented baby oil) every few months to keep the TPE soft and moisturized. After applying, lightly dusting with cornstarch or a TPE-safe powder can help reduce stickiness.

      If you have more questions about TPE care, we’re here to help. Let me know if there is something else you would like to know!

      Kindly,
